I have felt this way and suffer the same way you do. What especially caught my attention was that you said, "Even when I'm woken up I speak and open my eyes but I never remember it. People swear I'm awake but I'm not." This happens to me all the time. I wish I could tell you what it is, but I truly have no idea. I am seeing a psychiatrist and he just keeps increasing my sleeping medication. I have bipolar and my sleep schedule is crazy. If anybody has any information on this please let us know.
References :
Firstly, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is not just chronic fatigue. It is an illness also called M.E. which stands for Myalgic Encephalopathy meaning inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.
While the symptoms of the illness can differ from person to person, some people (usually those who stop and rest in the early stages) recover from it. However, some people have it indefinitely. I have heard of people who have had it for 20 or 30 years. There is no medical cure for it yet, but there are some things can help. I have a friend who had a severe case of M.E./CFS for 15 years, being bedridden for 12 of those years. After doing the Lightning Process seminar, he no longer has ME/CFS. He is cured.
References :
www.lightningprocess.com

I have illnesses that cause fatigue too, but I've never slept for 48 hours. When was the last time you had a blood test done? If it's been 3 months then you may need it tested again. A couple things that come to mind is possibly thyroid problems or anemia. The weather can affect fatigue. Like when a storm is blowing in. I know I am so much more tired and listless during the winter months when the weather changes often.
References :
I suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome for about 2 years and started taking Rhodiola Rosea (Siberian Golden Root). This helped me totally and within about a couple of weeks I felt fine. I took it every day for about a year then stopped and the fatigue hasn't returned. I felt very ill because of the fatigue and would feel exhausted virtually all of the time. I found the Rhodiola after doing some research on the 'net.

I don't think that my chronic fatigue would have gone away by itself and I did need something to treat it. I suppose everyone is different.
